Recruitment and training must adapt to new norms in retail05 Feb 2019
Hiring and training of talent will need to adapt to rapid change in the jewellery retail landscape, industry leaders said.
Family-owned jewellery businesses should develop careers of “professional retail jewellers” on their staff, industry consultant Jo Henderson told a seminar at Jewellery & Watch.
Simon Forrester, CEO of NAJ, said retail staff should take pride in being jewellers, and urged independent retailers to invest in training staff, adapting to the “new norms” of retail, such as e-commerce.
Topnotch customer service, combined with a need for well-developed skills in social media, were among the key skillsets required to succeed in an increasingly demanding market place, said Jayant Raniga, CEO of PureJewels.
The seminar was chaired by Jewellery Outlook Editor David Brough.
